What You Eat May Impact What You Hear: 5 Ingredients And Foods To Include In Your Meals

While you can keep ear infections at bay and avoid hazardous noises, there are other things that you can do to promote healthy hearing. In fact, it may come as a surprise to you, but the foods that you eat could help you prevent future hearing loss.  A balanced diet can do wonders in preventing and delaying hearing loss. Here are five ingredients and foods that you need to make sure you start incorporating into your meals:

Omega-3 Fats and Fish

Fish, including tuna, sardines, salmon and trout, have significant levels of omega-3 fats, which have shown to positively impact your hearing. The reason for this is because the omega-3 fats reportedly help strengthen blood vessels found within the sensory system of the ear.

Folic Acid and Broccoli

Also known as folate, folic acid is a very powerful antioxidant that is found in broccoli, beans, eggs, spinach and asparagus. Folic acid has been shown to help reduce hearing loss risk by as much as 20 percent. This is because the antioxidants help to fight free radicals that are trying to damage nerve tissues in your ears.

Magnesium and Bananas

When people get cramps in their legs, they often reach for a banana because of the potassium. However, bananas also contain magnesium, which can help reduce the risk of noise-induced hearing loss. It simply serves as an additional layer of protection. Just don't think that you can crank up the volume on your ear buds because of the extra hearing loss protection.

Zinc and Dark Chocolate

Many people simply lose hearing as they age. It isn't because of extremely loud noise or because of an injury. However, you can reduce the resistance to age-related loss by consuming zinc, which can often be found in oysters and dark chocolate. Who doesn't love a good reason to eat chocolate?

Vitamin C and Oranges

Vitamin C works with antioxidants to help minimize the damage caused by free radicals. It also helps to strengthen your body's immune system. A healthy immune system will help to reduce your risk of developing ear infections. In addition, vitamin C has shown to be effective in reducing noise-induced loss of hearing. You can find plenty of vitamin C in oranges, bell peppers and other fruits and vegetables.

All you have to do to help prevent or delay hearing loss is to eat healthier. However, this doesn't mean that you won't ever have any issues with your ears or your hearing.
