Managing Digestive Disorders

My name is Lilith Maclin and if you suffer from a digestive disorder, you can find a wealth of information about this type of medical condition in my blog. Three years ago, my husband was having severe stomach cramps and his doctor told him that he had a digestive disorder called ulcerative colitis. After my husband was diagnosed, I did thorough research to learn how to control and manage this disorder. We kept track of everything that my husband ate and when a certain food caused a flare-up of his condition, he eliminated that food from his diet. By learning all we could about this digestive disorder, my husband has been able to live pain free. If you want more information about this disorder and how to manage it, you can find it here by reading my blog.

Top 4 Reasons To Talk To Your Child's ENT Doctor About Ear Tubes

Louella Davidson

According to Kids Health, it is common for children between the age of 6 months and 2 years to get middle ear infections, known scientifically as otitis media. Although one infection isn't cause for alarm, several require an examination by an ENT specialist. There are several reasons parents will want to discuss the possibility of having ear tubes placed in their child's ear. These are listed below.

Stop Chronic Ear Infections

Watching your child suffer time and time again with pain in their tiny little ears is just as hard on the parent as it is on the child. Repeat antibiotics are often prescribed, which can lead to antibiotic resistance in the future. The ENT doctor will review your child's history and determine if ear tubes are necessary. Ear tubes are most commonly used to stop chronic ear infections from happening, and that means your baby won't have to keep taking antibiotics.

Restore Loss of Hearing

Another issue that leads to the need for ear tube surgery by an ENT doctor is a loss of hearing. This happens when the middle ears are constantly filled with fluid. The fluid may not lead to an infection, but it reduces the sounds that your developing child is able to hear. He or she may also find that sounds are muffled, which makes it difficult to make out any words that are being spoken. The tubes will release the fluid so that your little one will be able to hear perfectly again.

Improve Speech

When a younger child has fluid in the ears and cannot hear properly, he or she may experience a lack of speech. The little one won't be able to correctly hear the pronunciations of the words spoken to him or her and therefore won't have the ability to form and speak the words the way they were created. A set of ear tubes will keep the fluid draining so that hearing is restored, which then allows for speech to be improved.

Encourage Better Sleeping Patterns

If your child is suffering from multiple ear infections or chronic fluid in the ears, it is highly likely that he or she will have trouble sleeping. Pain from any illness tends to be a little bit worse during the evening hours. Kids who don't get enough sleep will often begin to have behavior problems in addition to experiencing a lack of concentration. Having the ear tubes inserted will release any pressure within the middle ear, allowing your child to be comfortable enough to have a peaceful night's sleep.
