Managing Digestive Disorders

My name is Lilith Maclin and if you suffer from a digestive disorder, you can find a wealth of information about this type of medical condition in my blog. Three years ago, my husband was having severe stomach cramps and his doctor told him that he had a digestive disorder called ulcerative colitis. After my husband was diagnosed, I did thorough research to learn how to control and manage this disorder. We kept track of everything that my husband ate and when a certain food caused a flare-up of his condition, he eliminated that food from his diet. By learning all we could about this digestive disorder, my husband has been able to live pain free. If you want more information about this disorder and how to manage it, you can find it here by reading my blog.

2 Tips To Protect Your Child From Developing A Heat Rash While Wearing Their Scoliosis Brace

Louella Davidson

If your child is experiencing progression in their scoliosis curve, then their doctor may suggest a brace in order to slow down the growth. A brace is typically recommended in order to prevent your child from having to undergo surgery in the future. A scoliosis brace needs to be worn at all hours of the day in order to notice any difference. This can often be uncomfortable to wear during hotter temperatures. The brace may cause your child to sweat and develop a heat rash. Luckily, there are a few tips that you can use to help protect your child from developing a heat rash while they wear their scoliosis brace.

Ask the Doctor if You Can Drill Holes into the Brace

The main reason that your child may develop a heat rash while wearing their scoliosis brace is because there is not enough ventilation coming through the brace. The brace is often designed to be tight and close fitting. This allows it to slow the growth of the curve down better. When there is a lack of ventilation, your child may experience sweating and a rash. In order to make your child's scoliosis brace more breathable, you can talk to your child's doctor about having holes drilled into the brace. The holes will allow air to pass in and out of the brace. This will help to alleviate any discomfort, irritation and sweating that your child normally experiences.

Apply an Absorbent Before Wearing the Brace

Applying an absorbent to your child's skin before they wear their brace will help to soak up any excess moisture caused by sweating. Cornstarch is an example of an absorbent that can be used. In addition, you can use the powder to coat the inside of the brace. In order to apply the cornstarch to your child's skin, simply apply a few layers of the powder to skin that is slightly damp. The skin should not be too wet since this can cause clumping. Also, if the skin is too dry this can make difficult for the powder to adhere to your child's skin. The cornstarch works best if it is applied several minutes after taking a shower.

Dealing with a heat rash while wearing a scoliosis brace can cause a large amount of discomfort. Therefore, use these tips to help make sure that your child does not have to experience this discomfort often. For more information, contact your child's doctor (like C D Denison).
