Managing Digestive Disorders

My name is Lilith Maclin and if you suffer from a digestive disorder, you can find a wealth of information about this type of medical condition in my blog. Three years ago, my husband was having severe stomach cramps and his doctor told him that he had a digestive disorder called ulcerative colitis. After my husband was diagnosed, I did thorough research to learn how to control and manage this disorder. We kept track of everything that my husband ate and when a certain food caused a flare-up of his condition, he eliminated that food from his diet. By learning all we could about this digestive disorder, my husband has been able to live pain free. If you want more information about this disorder and how to manage it, you can find it here by reading my blog.

5 Tips For Staying Warm While A Walk-In Tub Is Filling Or Draining

Louella Davidson

Walk-in bathtubs can be an excellent choice if you have mobility issues. However, they have one drawback for many consumers: you have to sit in the tub while it is filling up and draining in order to use the walk-in feature. Often, people with low mobility also suffer from poor circulation, so it can be important that you stay warm while your bathtub fills and drains. Below are five methods to make sure you stay comfortable throughout the entire bathing experience.

Raise the Temperature of Your Bathroom

Due to the tiles in bathrooms, they are notorious for being one of the colder rooms in a house. However, there are ways to raise the temperature in the room. Installing underfloor radiant heating or a wall radiator is a good option if you are doing a complete remodel. Alternatively, you can use a space heater as long as the unit is kept far enough away from the bathtub. If you don't want to pay to keep your bathroom heated all of the time, you can set these items to heat the room for an hour or two before you bathe.

Opt for a Tub With Fast Filling and Draining Features

Tub manufacturers know about this shortcoming in walk-in tubs, and so they have started designing features to overcome it. Several tubs on the market have fast-filling options that allow the tubs to fill much more quickly than a regular faucet would allow. Additionally, some tubs have extra pumps that help with the draining process, allowing you to exit the tub quickly once you are done bathing.

Choose a Tub With a Heating Function

Some walk-in tubs have a heating function similar to hot tubs. This can keep your water at a pleasant temperature while you bathe and, since your water is still warm at the end of your bath, reduce your risk of catching a chill while the water drains from your bathtub. This can also make your tub more pleasant to get into before your bath, as the seat of the tub will feel warmer and more inviting on your bare skin.

Keep a Towel On Hand to Cover Yourself

You can wrap a lightweight towel around your shoulders while the tub is filling up to keep yourself warm. Then, place the towel aside while you bathe and use it again once the water starts to drain. A lightweight towel, such as a Turkish towel, is a good option for this, as it is fast drying, soft, and warm, and it won't matter if the edges dip into the water. These towels are often used to cover people in Turkish baths and keep them warm between plunges. If you dip them in the warm water, you can keep warm under one for several minutes while the water drains. If you don't want to invest in a special towel, you can use one of your ordinary towels, but you may want to skip dunking it in the water.

Raise the Temperature of Your Water

Raising the temperature of your water can help raise your body temperature enough that you will feel warm as soon as the water starts filling the tub and remain warm while the water is draining. However, it is important that you do not raise the temperature to a point that causes you to overheat or puts you at risk for burns. If your doctor wants you to limit the temperatures of your baths, you should opt for one of the other heating methods instead.
