Managing Digestive Disorders

My name is Lilith Maclin and if you suffer from a digestive disorder, you can find a wealth of information about this type of medical condition in my blog. Three years ago, my husband was having severe stomach cramps and his doctor told him that he had a digestive disorder called ulcerative colitis. After my husband was diagnosed, I did thorough research to learn how to control and manage this disorder. We kept track of everything that my husband ate and when a certain food caused a flare-up of his condition, he eliminated that food from his diet. By learning all we could about this digestive disorder, my husband has been able to live pain free. If you want more information about this disorder and how to manage it, you can find it here by reading my blog.

When Should You Replace Your Custom Orthotics?

Louella Davidson

If you suffer from a chronic foot condition, your orthopedist may suggest custom orthotics to help. Custom orthotics are shoe inserts designed specifically for your feet to help you overcome certain foot conditions, such as flat feet or plantar fasciitis. Orthotics are recommended over the premade shoe inserts you can purchase in the store as they last longer and are custom-made for you. However, at some point, you may need to have the orthotics replaced. The following are some considerations to factor in when you are trying to decide whether or not to replace your custom orthotics.

How Often Should You Replace Your Custom Orthotics?

There are no specific rules on when you should replace your custom orthotics. Ideally, your doctor may recommend you replace the orthotics every few years. However, if your current orthotics are still working for you and you are not dealing with any foot pain at all, you can wait if you prefer to do so.

Has Your Lifestyle Changed?

Custom orthotics are designed to correct the issues with your foot in the condition you and your feet are currently in at the time. Any major changes you have made, whether you have gained or lost weight, are pregnant, had major surgery, or if you have changed your walking style can all factor into the decision to get new custom orthotics made.

Do Your Current Orthotics Seem Damaged?

If your current custom orthotics are showing signs of wear and tear, it is time to replace them. They cannot work effectively when they are in poor condition. If you can see any visible signs of damage, such as cracks, sections of the orthotics that are broken, or if the soles are worn down, chances are your doctor is going to want to replace them.

Are Your Feet Hurting?

If your feet begin to hurt again after wearing your custom orthotics for a while, it may be time to replace them. Over time, your orthotics may not be providing the same pain relief they once did. This may be due to changes in the structure of your foot or changes in the gait of your walk. The pain may also be due to worn-out orthotics. If you are in any type of pain, your orthopedist will likely want to change your orthotics to help you deal with it.

Custom orthotics are an investment. You want them to work properly. Replacing them when necessary is going to help you reduce pain in your feet and help you live a healthier lifestyle.
